Blitz
Blitz came into my life after being rescued from a high-kill shelter in Mexico. I'm forever grateful to the rescue that pulled him from death row and gave him a chance โ because that's how he found his way to me.
He wasn't just a dog. He was different. Full of personality, energy, and a presence that filled our home in a way that I still can't fully put into words.
Some animals just carry something extra. Something that makes the people around them feel it โ without being able to explain why. Blitz was that.
The Moment Everything Changed
In December 2024, everything changed.
After a misdiagnosis, I trusted my instincts and had his labs rechecked. Within minutes, I was told his platelet count was zero.
"Go straight to the emergency vet."
What followed were months of uncertainty, impossible decisions, and more than $40,000 in attempts to save him.
I have never experienced anything like the weight of that moment. The vet I trusted told me: pay this amount right now, or we can't help you.
No conversation. No arrangement. No empathy for the situation. Just a number, and a clock.
I paid it. But standing in that room, I kept thinking โ what does someone do when they can't?
I was fortunate to be able to pay the funds. But most people can't. And that means making an impossible choice in a moment of crisis.
The Reality Most People Face
I was fortunate. I had access to funds that most families don't have.
But as I sat in that waiting room โ over and over again, across months โ I watched other families face the same moment. I heard the same conversations. I saw people leave.
Not because they didn't love their pet. Not because they didn't want to fight. Because the number on the invoice was one they couldn't cross.
And the pet didn't come home.
Why The Blitz Foundation Exists
Despite everything โ I lost him.
And in that moment, something became very clear to me: this isn't just my story. This happens to pet owners every single day. In every city. In every income bracket. In every kind of family.
The difference between a pet coming home and not coming home is often not the medicine, not the skill of the vet, not the love of the owner โ it's money. And that is a problem we can actually solve.
I started The Blitz Foundation so that no pet owner ever has to stand in that room and be told their choice is pay or leave.
Our mission is simple: help pet owners facing emergencies get access to the care their pets need, without being blocked by financial barriers.
No one should have to choose between their pet's life and money.
Help us honor Blitz's memory
Every dollar you give goes directly to a family facing the same impossible choice. Help us make sure they don't have to face it alone.
